Goals

Possible End goal

A possible end goal, the one each other goal could be building towards, is to start a non-profit program not unlike the Warrior Sailing Program. With a few changes of course. This program will focus on recreational fishing and motorized boating. Boat maintenance, fishing gear maintenance, trip planning, fish identification and handling, and all aspects of running a boat from deckhand to captain will be covered to varying degrees of depth. It is my hope that I can provide enough training for these vets to maybe gain employment on one of the many charter boat operations in southern California, from the small 4 and six pack boats all the way up to the long range fleet or at least come away with skills, knowledge, and experience that will help them live fulfilling lives regardless of their disability. Maybe I could eventually end up having a fleet that veteran members who graduated can use as long as they help maintain and take out other vets.

Definite Goals

My ultimate goal is to spend time with my wife, who does so much to support me, and to take other disabled veterans out for a fun day on the water without charge to them. I know how difficult it can be to find time and money for recreation. I also know how important it can be to our happiness to have those sorts of opportunities available. Hopefully in the not too distant future, I will be in a position to accomplish this goal.
I hope to take at least 1-2 trips per month where I take other veterans on the water. It could be the ocean, lake, or river. Fishing, tubing, cruising, and sightseeing are all possible uses.
I need to be able to accommodate various disabilities. Like balance and mobility issues. Hearing and visual issues. GI issues. Pain issues. And many more.
Boat has to have generous freeboard for safety at sea. A full walkaround for fishability and safety moving around.
A head for comfort.
A boom and block for hauling lobster traps, big fish, or a man overboard.
A cabin would be nice in long run. Make sure it can be temperature controlled for comfort.
Widest beam possible for trailerable boat to ensure better stability without being unable to tow it.

Fishing Goals

I have some goals when it comes to fishing as well.

I want to be able to target and find and land any species in our southern California waters. That includes lobster and crab. My prime target species are Tunas, White Sea Bass, Halibut, Yellowtail, and California Spiny Lobster.

I want to fish offshore, near shore, and be able to be trailered to freshwater and fish there.

I want to be able to teach others how to find and land fish.
